Control Panel Access: Your web hosting comes with many facilities including free web mail, free ecommerce, free scripts, online help, etc. To view the full range of facilities, type the following into the address bar of your web browser.


(Substitute “yourdomain.com” with your own domain name. Add the link to your favorites for quick access.) Enter your hosting username and password at the prompt. Please note, support is not provided for third party applications provided free through your control panel.

E-Mail Support: (Please also refer to the documentation in your Control Panel)
Setup Individual Email Accounts: Log in to your Control Panel with your hosting account username and password. Go to E-Mail > Manage Accounts > Add Account Set up a new account, enter a new password and set the mailbox size (quota)
We recommend 3 to 5 MB. This will only add to your hosting account size when the space is used. If you expect large attachments to your e-mails, you can set this higher. Note If the combined size of your web site and used email boxes exceeds your hosting account limit, you may stop receiving e-mail until corrected.
3rd Party Email Setup Details:

Incoming Mail (pop3):
mail.yourdomain.com (use your own domain name prefixed with "mail.")

Outgoing Mail (SMTP): Use the outgoing mail address provided by your ISP. (recommended for computers at fixed locations)
OR: mail.yourdomain.com
Note!! We recommend the outgoing mail address provided by your ISP if your computer is not portable. (e.g. mail.bigpond.com.au or mail.m.iinet.net.au , etc. In some cases this is a requirement of your ISP.)

For portable devices, laptops and mobiles, better to use mail.yourdomain.com as outgoing, to avoid resetting the outgoing mail server when connecting through a different ISP.

If using "mail.yourdomain.com" as your outgoing mail server (SMTP), in your email client settings ( outlook, outlook express and etc) you might need to have "My Outgoing Server(SMTP) Requires Authentication" turned on. if necessary, go also to advanced settings and change the outgoing mail port to 2525.

Your main or default email account username and password is usually your default cpanel login username and password, unless changed.

If you have set up additional email accounts, your login username will be the full email address.

More information regarding email setup options may be found in your cPanel after you setup an email account, at the "Account Created" dialog box.
Web Mail: As well as accessing your e-mail with your usual e-mail software installed on your computer, e.g. Outlook Express, Outlook, Eudora, etc., you may access your email from anywhere via the web mail service provided free with your hosting account. Web mail can be accessed by typing the following address into your browser’s address bar.

Your main or default email account username and password is usually your default cpanel login username and password, unless changed.

If you have set up additional email accounts, your login username will be the full email address. Choose any of the web mail programs available. e.g. Squirrel, Horde, etc.
cPanel Default E-Mail: The default email in cPanel is a “catch all” system. A “catch all” system allows anything@yourdomain.com to be received in your main e-mail account.

If you wish to enable the “catch all” system, enter your default hosting username in "set default address".

The email username and password for the default email address will then be your hosting account username and password. NOTE:

We do not recommend using the “catch all” system as it can catch "spam".

We recommend you place " :fail: no such address here " to bounce email not specifically addressed to an active email account You may set up separate email accounts in the e-mail section of your hosting Control Panel, with individual usernames and passwords.
Change Email Password: Log in to your Control Panel with your hosting account username and password. Go to E-Mail > Manage Accounts > Change Password.

Users of other email accounts, who do not have access to the hosting control panel, can change their password at the screen immediately after their webmail "log in" prompt, and before opening a Web mail program.

To Login, go to: www.yourdomain.com/webmail

Email Forwarding:
Forwarding email from an existing account.
Email forwarding from an existing email account provides a copy of a received email to a second email address.
It does not remove the original email from the server inbox.

Please note:
If you commonly receive your email at a forwarded addess, your email account inbox on the hosting server may fill up and require periodic emptying.

Permanent Redirection.
To permanently redirect email from , say, "you@yourdomain.com.au", to a different address, such as "you@hotmail.com", without keeping a copy on the server.
Add a forwarder in cPanel without setting up an email account for that address.

Spam Help:

Receiving too much spam?

Golden Rule: Never publish, or allow your email address to be published on a web page, without code protection or "masking".

Spammers use Email Harvesters to collect email addresses published on internet web pages.

Code protection (masking) means either encrypting the page source or the use of a javascript email address code.
Contact us if you would like code protection set up. $40.00 per web page.

Also, if you often shop online, or give websites an email address, use a spare disposable email address that you can later delete or change.

Solutions for Current Spam Problems:

A/ Change your Email Address and use an autoresponder for the old one:

The autoresponder will advise vailid senders of your new address.

1/ Go to your control panel, set up a new email address.

Don't set up a common address such as "sales@" or "info@" or "mail@" etc. as spammers target those.

2/ Delete the old email account. (To avoid retaining copies of spam.)

3/ Set up an autoresponder for your old address in your cPanel, to advise your associates of the new address. It will still autorespond, even though the old address is no longer valid.

e.g. Dear Sir/Madam,
The email address"info@yourdomain.com.au" has been changed.
Please re-send your message to newaddress@yourdomain.com.au and update your contact list accordingly.
Thank you for your understanding.
Yours, etc.

Spammers will not receive notification of your new email address, as spammers usually do not use a valid return email address.

4/ If you publish the new email address on the web, be sure to use email masking.
(Contact us if you require information on email masking)

5/ Be sure to test your autoresponder by sending an email to it.

6/ Be sure to update any automated systems you rely on, such as your domain registration contact email address, your electric power bill, telephone bill, etc. so you will still receive your automated renewal information.

B/ Can't change your email address? Try using Box Trapper.

Box Trapper may be discontinued and no longer be available in your account.

If spammers already have your email address, and the address is so important that you do not wish to change it, then Box Trapper is a solution.
Box Trapper is a free service with your hosting setup, and can be configured via your cPanel.

Spammers seldom or never use a valid email address. The way Box Trapper works, is to require any "first time" sender to verify their email address by returning a confirmation request first. This requires the sender to verify that their email address is real.

The sender is immediately verified by returning the confirmation request, and their original message is allowed through. The senders email address automatically added to a "whitelist" and any future email from that address is allowed through without confirmation.

You can also add email addresses to the whitelist manually, so your regular current contacts and clients will not be required to verify.

The automatic verification messages are completely editable.

It is worth your time to consider. Once in operation, a system such as this will defeat most if not all of your spam.

Also, if you find your website form is being used improperly, Box Trapper can be used on the email addresses that are used by the form script.

With website forms, it is also important to hide Form Mail email addresses and script locations from hackers and spammers. This can be done using source page encryption.

Troubleshooting Email: 

We find that 98% of reported client email problems are found to be not related to BusyHosting service operational errors.

Prior to contacting us regarding email send and receive, please do some basic checks:

The following solutions assume your email has been working properly before.

If your computer operating system has temporary instability due to some software malfunction, this can cause network or ip failure. It is always good practice to reboot and then re-check your email or internet access.

Double check the email address. Many problems are related to incorrect syntax in the email delivery address. e.g. Is there a hidden underscore? (john_smith@youraddress.com) or a comma instead of a full stop.

If unable to deliver to recipient, please check the mail delivery return information to ascertain the cause of the problem.
There are often a number of servers present in the chain from email initiation to receipt. Delivery interruption can be caused by technical problems elsewhere in the chain. Try again later to see if the problem has been corrected.

Some receive problems are related to email accounts reaching their quota limit by either filling up with spam or email that is not downloaded or cleared from the server mailboxes, especially when attachments are involved. Usually the use of Outlook or a similar email client to receive email clears the mail box on the server.

To check if your quota has been reached:
From your hosting account Control Panel, go to "Manage Accounts > show disk space used". Check the disk usage for the email boxes to examine if your quota has been reached. If your mailbox has reached the quota capacity, log into your Web Mail via the control panel with your username (full email address if not default email) and password. Check and delete unwanted email.

If using a spam filter to redirect spam to a folder, make sure your spam folder or web mail trash is emptied often.

If you have an email account and have also set up an email forwarder in Control Panel, and use only the forwarded address to receive your email, then your account's server inbox may fill up. Only a copy of the email is sent to the forwarded address, the original is still held in your server mailbox. Check your mailbox via web mail and delete any unwanted email. (See Email Forwarding above)

Spam Filters such as "Spam Assassin, etc."

If you are not receiving some emails, check your spam filter settings, and check your web mail to see if the email has been diverted to an unwanted mail folder. We do not support the use of spam filters at this time, as the technology is imperfect. We recommend using the junk mail system in Microsoft Outlook instead.

Not receiving attachments? Any email attachments that are suspected as being executables are in danger of being mistaken as possible virus threats, and can be deleted in transit, not necessarily just by BusyHosting.
It is always advisable to "zip" attachments with "WinZip" or similar.

If, at any time, you have a specific email fault that is found to be caused by BusyHosting, please forward the information to us in order that we can track the problem.

Email Mailbox Full

There are two main types of email - IMAP and POP3. Usually you choose the type of account when you set up an emal address in your email program on your PC.

IMAP email remains on the server untill moved or deleted from your mailboxes. (Subject to setup preferences in your email program). IMAP is commonly used when you check your email from multiple devices.
Please note that you mailbox includes your inboxes, sent email , trash and deleted items for each email account.

POP3 email is deleted from the server after download. (Subject to setup preferences in your email program).

If you expect to receive and/or send large email attachments often, we recommend POP3.

In your hosting account on our server, email accounts have a quota that is set in your control panel. The quota is also limited by the overall quota allocated to your hosting account.

You manage your email from your local PC, from your device's email account settings.
If you have reached your hosting account or email quota, then on your local PC, go to your email program account settings - advanced:

1/ If the email type is IMAP:

Your local PC email application preferences need to be set up for each email account so that:

  • Deleted email is removed from the server after xx days
  • Email is removed from the server when moved from your mailbox.

A rule of thumb with Imap email is:

  • Use one device to manage your email, usually your desktop PC.
  • Set the email account management settings, as above, on that device only.
  • On this main device, always move important emails you wish to keep to a special folder you create within your email application but outside of your mailbox (e.g. on your local drive) and clear your mailbox of unneccessary emails daily.
  • Please note that "sent" email is also part of your mailbox and must be moved or deleted.
  • When email is moved from your mailbox on your main device, the email will disappear from your mailboxes on your other devices (it's removed from our server) but be still available on your main device.

2/ If the email type is POP3

  • Ensure your email accounts are set to delete mail from the server after download on your main device.


IMAP users please note that you mailbox includes your inboxes, sent email , trash and deleted items for each email account.
